Catherine (Cat) Rodriguez
What do you want to learn this year?
I want to learn how to be better at public speaking and how to best advocate for students on mental health.
What’s your favorite genre of music?
Why are you interested in mental health and wellness?
I like to see change and to see the best in people mentally, physically and emotionally. As a student, I can see and relate with others especially in the young adult age range as we deal with similar societal stressors. I have had many experiences with family, friends, and anxieties. I feel like I may be a bridge to understanding the many stressors that can be going on in people’s lives and the factors that can be affecting them. I think it is important that students and people get the best education possible. I feel like promoting mental health resources for students can be a very necessary step to the welfare of people, especially if the word is passed down to every person that it makes a difference to.
What are your life/career plans after Ohlone College?
I am a Sociology major. I do not have an exact idea, although hopefully go towards a career path where I can help people. I also always wanted to own my own small business when I got older.

My sister works really hard, and my mom has done the best to give my sister’s and I the best life under certain circumstances. We have all been through the same things together, but I am always astonished by how resilient they are when times get tough.
What are you most proud of?
I am proud of being certain of who I am, and just being me with no outer influences to change that.
